SEYI and the Taiwan Machine Tool & Accessory Builders’ Association (TMBA) Collaborate to Promote Press Machine PCR, Supporting the Industry's Progress Towards ESG Sustainable Development

As the impact of global climate change intensifies, achieving net-zero carbon emissions has become a common goal for governments and businesses worldwide in their pursuit of sustainable development. As the cornerstone of manufacturing, the machine tool industry faces unprecedented pressure to balance economic growth with environmental protection. Against this backdrop, the Taiwan Machine Tool & Accessory Builders’ Association (TMBA) has been driving the establishment of carbon footprint "Product Category Rules" (PCR) for six major categories—machining centers, lathes, drilling/boring/milling/tapping/threading machines, grinders, presses, and EDM/laser machines—since the fourth quarter of 2023. Through the association's committee mechanism, these rules are being developed in a fair, impartial, and transparent manner, creating a credible scope and rules for carbon footprint calculations. This provides the domestic machine tool and component industries with a standard for carbon footprint calculations.

As a key member of TMBA's Environmental (E) Committee, SEYI actively responds to the industry's net-zero carbon emissions goal. On August 12th, SEYI, along with TMBA, the Chinese National Federation of Industries, the Precision Machinery Research & Development Center, Feng Chia University, and industry representatives from Chin Fong Machine Industrial, Lien Chieh Machinery, and YCM, as well as PCR experts, held a public review and discussion meeting on the draft of the "Machine Tool PCR - Presses (CCC Code: 8462)."

The purpose of this meeting was to thoroughly discuss and refine the carbon footprint calculation standards for press machines. During the meeting, participants actively shared their valuable opinions and suggestions on the draft to ensure that the established rules accurately reflect the carbon emissions of press machines throughout the production process, from cradle to gate. The results of this discussion will provide crucial guidance for the domestic press machine industry in carbon footprint calculations, helping businesses better cope with increasingly stringent environmental regulations and promoting the sustainable development of the industry in the global net-zero trend.

Calculating and reducing the product's carbon footprint not only helps manufacturers lower carbon emissions, enhance competitiveness, and improve brand image but also meets consumer demand for green products through transparent disclosure of carbon emission data, opening up more international business opportunities. This public review and discussion meeting on the "Machine Tool PCR - Presses (CCC Code: 8462)" draft demonstrates the industry's commitment to environmental responsibility and lays the foundation for promoting industrial transformation and enhancing international competitiveness. SEYI will continue to participate in and promote the standardization of carbon footprint calculations, helping the Taiwanese machine tool industry move towards sustainable development in the global market and achieve the goal of net-zero carbon emissions.
